TAG Conference in Dallas is a Technician's Treat

By Alex McCallum

The TAG conference is an event that technical traders look forward to every year, for many reasons. They get to meet and listen to industry stars like Larry Williams, Linda Raschke, Larry McMillan and John Murphy; they find great value in socializing and comparing notes with each other; and, more often than not, they enjoy the hotel and city where they are staying. What more could a trader want?

Well, if truth be told, traders are gluttons for information. The more they get, the happier they seem to be, particularly technical traders, the kind that will be turning up at this year's TAG 22 conference which takes place October 12-15 in Dallas, Tex. TAG is an acronym for Technical Analysis Group and has been the name given to the conference since it was started more than two decades ago by Tim Slater, the creator of CompuTrac, one of the first online trading tools.

At TAG 22, with 32 speakers giving 1-1/2 hour workshops, the attendees are going to be rewarded with mountains of information. Not only will they receive a weighty "Mega Profit Guide," which contains every speaker's prepared commentary and charts, but they can also request audiocassettes of every one of the 32 speaker presentations. With topics like "Dynamic Time and Price Analysis," "Using Volume Indicators to Trade Successfully," and "Risk/ Reward Probability Trading," the sessions are so full of detail that, with plenty of technicians in the audience, the workshop notes and cassettes are guaranteed to be "best sellers."

To help attendees find their way to the information that suits them best, the TAG 22 program will be organized into Novice, Intermediate and Advanced sections, and it will also be possible to select among futures, options, foreign exchange and stocks. To go by past experience, many attendees will be attracted to the "personalities" on the program. Here is a list of this year's featured stars, with the titles of their presentations:

  • Larry Williams
    Trading Real Time
  • Martin Pring
How to Use Relative Strength for More Profitable Stock Selection
  • Robert Deel
    Strategic Analysis and Trading Tactics
  • Linda Bradford Raschke
    "Slump Busting" Techniques
  • John Murphy
    Intermarket Analysis and Sector Rotation
  • Larry McMillan
Volatility Trading and Other Option Techniques

The speakers also include lots of other well-known names: Gary Anderson, Tom Aspray, Larry Berman, John Bollinger, Walter Bressert, Mark Cook, John Crane, George Dagnino, Robin Dayne, Mark Douglas, John Ehlers, Nelson Freeburg, John Hayden, Cynthia Kase, Charles Le Beau, Tom McClellan, Hal Masover, Robert Miner, Jon Najarian, Tony Oz, Barbara Rockefeller, David Stendahl, Stewart Taylor and Matt Zito.

Of the many reasons for attending TAG 22, one of them will undoubtedly leave a permanent mark—there will be enough information about technical analysis to last attendees for another 12 months, until TAG 23!
