- 2000: Volume 9, No. 5 |
Dear Reader,
This issue takes a close look at Options and, if we do say so ourselves, it may be an issue you want to hang on to for future reference.
Larry McMillan, thought by many to be the definitive source for option strategy information, kicks things off with a look at option volatility and the role it may play in predicting market movements. Tom Aspray takes some familiar technical trading tools and shows how they can be applied to options trading. In a similar vein, Clif Droke talks about parabolic analysis and applies this time-honored charting technique to options. Paul Steven introduces us to Options Industry Services-a great resource for anyone interested in trading options.
Of course, Adrienne Toghraie, Bob Ecob and Brad "Dr. Index" Zigler are back with their insights into the trading world. And Phillip Wiegand looks at the importance of "delta" to your option trading strategy.
Two of the premier conferences our industry has to offer are coming up shortly. Alex McCallum of INO.com tells us what to expect from TAG 22 which will take place in Dallas from October 12-15. Mary Ann Burns of the Futures Industry Association details the highlights of Futures & Options Expo 2000 which will be held in Chicago November 7-9. We highly recommend both of these events as indispensable sources of the latest information available to today's trader.

Milton Jiler 1908-2000
In 1933, a young Milton Jiler was assigned to cover the New York commodity exchange beat as a reporter for the New York American newspaper. He quickly came to realize that information on the commodity markets was difficult to come by for those not closely associated to exchange members. On February 3, 1934, to fill what he perceived as a need, Milton's newly founded company, Commodity Research Bureau, published its first issue of Futures Market Service, a newsletter analyzing the fundamentals affecting the commodity markets.
Sixty-six years later, Commodity Research Bureau continues to thrive, publishing Futures Market Service and many other products that provide information on the commodity markets.
On August 7, 2000, Milton Jiler passed away peacefully in the presence of his wife and son. All of us, at Commodity Research Bureau, would like to thank Milton Jiler for his foresight and contributions to the success of Commodity Research Bureau.
